Abstract
Background: Cervicogenic headache is pain referred to the head from a source in the cervical spine, arising from compression of sensory nerves supplying the scalp. The soft tissue, fascia, and discs of the upper cervical region are the principal structures implicated. The pain typically begins as tightness in the neck and upper cervical musculature and arises from nociceptive stimuli in the cervical and occipital regions. Cervicogenic headache has a marked impact on an individuals quality of life, including emotional, relationship, sexual, and social functioning.
